Where to Eat Out?

You might be wondering, where could we possibly go out to eat?  Here are some of the places where we enjoy eating out.

Fancy French-Inspired Restaurants
Indian Restaurants
  • Indian restaurants usually have a lot of wheat-free and corn-free options, including some that are dairy-free and nut-free.  It's important to ask about the ingredients in the cream and yogurt, though, because they can contain corn.  We like to go to India Palace in Nashua.
  • A new Indian restaurant that I'm curious to visit is Meena's Kitchen in downtown Nashua.
Italian Restaurants and Pizzerias
  • Bertucci's:  I just discovered that Bertucci's has a gluten-free menu.  We have never been, but there is one near us so I think we'll try to go and check it out.
  • Carrabba's:  Michael took the girls out to Carrabba's when I was away, and they all enjoyed the food and drinks.
  • Lui Lui:  We are very excited that Lui Lui now has gluten-free pizza, especially since it tastes even better than Uno's.  Lui Lui also has a couple other gluten-free options.
  • Macaroni Grill:  We went here for the first time in Portland and were impressed with the ambiance, food quality and allergen information sheets.
  • Uno Chicago Grill:  The girls like the children's meal of grilled chicken with French fries.  Uno's also has a gluten-free menu and makes a gluten-free pizza that is also corn-free.  Michael can eat the gluten-free pizza safely as long as we request no Parmesan or Romano cheese on his.
Steak Restaurants
  • Burton's Grill:  This restaurant has several locations in MA and NH.   They have a gluten-free menu and are great about accommodating food allergies as well.
  • Firebirds Wood Fired Grill:  There is a Firebirds in Durham, NC near where my sister lives.  They have a gluten-free menu and the food is great.
  • Outback Steakhouse:  Outback has a gluten-free menu, and Michael enjoys the filet with a side of vegetables.  The girls like to split a child's portion of steak with French fries.
      Thai Restaurants
      • Thai restaurants are usually a safe option if they are authentically Thai and not a combination of Thai and Chinese cuisine.  Michael and I really like Thai food, but unfortunately we haven't yet found a Thai restaurant nearby that we like.  I'm thinking of trying Garlic Bistro in Chelmsford, MA, right off of exit 32 on Route 3.  Thai Parima in Dracut, MA also looks worth visiting.
      • The last time I was away with the girls, Michael ate at Chiang Mai Thai Restaurant in Amherst, NH and liked it.
      • The other Thai restaurant that I would like to try visiting again is Thon Kao Thai Restaurant in Nashua.
      Other Local Restaurants

          Traveling:

What do we do if we have to travel all day on the road?  If we can't pack all of the food we'll need and there isn't one of the above restaurants nearby, we might have to go to one of the following options.
          • Chipotle Grill should be fine and we'd go there if we needed to while traveling.  All of the food is supposed to be gluten-free except the flour tortillas; however, I've read that some people who are gluten-sensitive have reacted due to cross-contamination.
          • Hardee's has a gluten-free option of a beef patty wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun, but Michael would have to forgo the ketchup since it contains corn syrup.  The mashed potatoes look like they might be okay, and the green beans are safe.
          • Chick-fil-A might be a possibility, since their website lists the chargrilled chicken garden salad as gluten-free; however, we would need to find out if it contains any corn.  Naomi would only be able to eat the chargrilled chicken since the breaded chicken products and fries are cooked in peanut oil.
          • Starbucks is a good option for a snack since they have fresh fruit and drinks that we all can have.
            • If worse came to worst, we could stop at McDonald's.  Michael could eat the 100% beef patty (but not the 100% Angus beef patty) without the bun or any toppings, and a side salad with Newman's Own low-fat balsamic vinaigrette.
